Iodine/persulfate-promoted site-selective direct thiolation of quinolones and uracils

A simple and general method for direct thiolation of 4-quinolones with disulfides or thiols under I₂/K₂S₂O₈ system has been developed. Under the optimal conditions, the C–S bond coupling can take place effectively with good to decent yields and excellent regioselectivity of the S-linked products. The established metal-free site-selective approach was also applicable to transform a range of uracil substrates to the thio-substituted products under mild conditions. Further transformation to the sulfone derivatives can be conveniently performed in one-pot. These easy-to-handle protocols represent a useful and interesting synthetic alternative with good substrate scope and functional group compatibility.

We consider the nonlinear problem of inhomogeneous Allen–Cahn equation

where Ω is a bounded domain in ${\mathbb{R}}^2$ with smooth boundary, ? is a small positive parameter, ν denotes the unit outward normal of ?Ω, V is a positive smooth function on $\overline{\mathrm{\Omega }}$. Let Γ be a curve intersecting orthogonally with ?Ω at exactly two points and dividing Ω into two parts. Moreover, Γ satisfies stationary and non-degenerate conditions with respect to the functional ${\int }_{\mathrm{\Gamma }}{V}^{1/2}$. We can prove that there exists a solution $u_{?}$ such that: as $?\to 0$, $u_{?}$ approaches +1 in one part of Ω, while tends to ?1 in the other part, except a small neighborhood of Γ.     

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of (E)-Ethyl (9-bromo-5-oxo-4-phenyl-1,10b-dihydro-5H-pyrano [3,4-c] chromen-2-ylidene) Acetate

The crystal structure of the title compound (C22H17BrO5 , Mr = 441.27) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal is of orthorhombic system, space group Pna21 with a = 11.76(1), b = 14.58(1), c = 11.52(1), V = 1973.93 , Z = 4, Dc = 1.485 g/cm3 , F(000) = 896, μ(MoKα) = 2.113 mm-1 , the final R = 0.0394 and wR = 0.0809 for 3918 observed reflections (Ⅰ > 2 (Ⅰ)). The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data indicate that the C=C bond is in an E-configuration. The intramolecular C(10)-H(10B)···O(4) and intermolecular C(17)-H(17)···O(4) hydrogen bonds contribute to the stability of the structure.     

On the Webster Scalar Curvature Problem on the CR Sphere with a Cylindrical-Type Symmetry

By variational methods, for a kind of Webster scalar curvature problems on the CR sphere with cylindrically symmetric curvature, we construct some multi-peak solutions as the parameter is sufficiently small under certain assumptions. We also obtain the asymptotic behaviors of the solutions.     

Visible and near-infrared light activated azo dyes

The photoisomerization properties of azo derivatives have been widely used in the fields of materials and biology.One serious restriction to the development of functional azo-based materials is the necessity to trigger switching by UV light,which damage the corresponding surfaces and penetrate only partially through the matter.Therefore,developing the visible and near-infrared light activated azo switches can solve this problem.This review provides a summary of molecular design strategies for driving the isomerization of azo derivatives with visible light and near-infrared light:(1) smart design directly excited by visible light,(2) the addition of upconversion nanoparticles,(3) the employment of twophoton absorption,(4) indirect excitation in combination with metal sensitizer.     

How the expanded crowd-funding mechanism of some southern rural areas in China affects cooperative behaviors in threshold public goods game

The pursuit of high cooperation rates in public goods games has attracted many researchers. However, few researchers attach much weight to the influence of emotions on decision-making, especially on public goods games. From ancient to modern times, publishing the list of cooperators to stimulate cooperation has been a common phenomenon in some southern rural areas in China. Actually, the published list can influence individuals’ behaviors by affecting their emotions. Here we extend the method of publishing the list and optimize it by adding a lobbyist mechanism. Through numerical simulations, we find that the role of lobbyists can not be ignored unless the synergy factor is larger than a certain value. Additionally, we find that publishing the list certainly has a great effect on individual’s cooperative behavior. But whether to publish the list or not and how to publish the list depend on the situation.
